Over a number of years, we have developed our instructional model that we call the ‘Oberon Good Lesson’. It continues to evolve, but at its core it is based on strategies backed by evidence to positively impact student achievement. Staff regularly undertake professional learning where they share and develop their knowledge of this model, led by our professional learning team.
Clear statement on what students will learn in the lesson
Strategically chosen openings to promote curiosity and engagement
Make expectations of the class clear to students
Use a range of questions to prompt deeper thinking
Learning tasks that are challenging, achievable, and offer the chance for students to get feedback on their progress
Students reflect on their learning and give feedback
This model is used in conjunction with our ‘Target 3’ and Inclusion approach. These help teachers and education support staff in using student data to identify and cater for multiple ability levels in their classes. More information on these can be requested from school leadership.
